News from the Swedish Geotechnical Society

At the Annual Meeting held on the 9th March 2011, Stefan Aronsson was re-elected as the President of the society for another (and his final) year.

The 32nd Foundation Day organised on the Thursday 10th March yet again broke attendance records. There were 60 exhibitors from the Nordic countries, Germany, Netherlands, Italy and the UK. Mr Aronsson is pleased to report that feedback received confirms that participating companies consider the Foundation Day an extremely effective way of becoming part of the Swedish market. In total, there were 650 persons at the Foundation Day and approximately 490 attendees at the Banquet held at the Grand Hotel in Stockholm afterwards. The event was considered a great success.

This year, the international speakers were David Sherwood (Bachy-Soletanche), Paul Doherty (DGD Ltd) and Christiane Hof (Züblin) who, together with the 6 national speakers, presented very interesting topics.

The SGS is also pleased to announce that they are already preparing for the European Young Geotechnical Engineers’ Conference in Sweden in 2012. They are looking forward to the event with great excitement!

The Nordic Board Meeting will be held in Helsinki on the 25th March, and will be followed by the FGS’s 60 Years Anniversary Dinner.
