ISSMGE International Seminars (previously known as Touring Lectures) have proven to be an important activity, bringing together practitioners, contractors, and academics, both on stage and in the audience, to their own benefit, irrespective of the region, size, or wealth of the Member Society, thus fostering the sense of belonging to the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.
The Purpose of ISSMGE International Seminars · Facilitate the occasion for a Member Society to expose its members to the views of international experts on a theme of local or regional interest. · Help close the gaps (both local and international) between practitioners, contractors, and academics. Responsibility for organisation The organisation of an ISSMGE International Seminar requires both initiative from the ISSMGE President or one of the Vice-Presidents, and commitment from a Member Society. Good geographical spread of hosting societies will be wanted by the Vice-Presidents in their regions and by the President among regions. Having put together an ISSMGE International Seminar, the President or the Vice-Presidents may offer that seminar to more than one Member Society, in order to optimise means and efforts. ISSMGE International Seminars may also be requested by Member Societies themselves, in response to an identified local need. Vice-Presidents will then, with the help of the ISSMGE Board, and particularly the President and the Secretary General, try to engage international experts and industry support.
