The YMPG in collaboration with the Organising Committee for the 2nd Malaysian Geotechnical Society - Geotechnical Society of Singapore Geotechnical Conference 2023, Singapore, would like to announce the winners of the Bright Spark Lecture Award to threr distinguished young geotechnical engineers/academics: Lee Long Guang and Chia Weng Boon. They were invited to give keynote lectures on 30 November - 2 Dececember 2023.

The Bright Spark Lecture Award was established to promote young members of the ISSMGE to play a major role in various international and regional conferences. Recipients of this award are invited to give a keynote lecture at ISSMGE conferences. All Technical Committee conference organisers and Member Society conference organisers are encouraged to select Bright Spark Lecturers at their conferences. Winners Bio
Lee Long Guang
Mr. Lee Long Guang is Principal Engineer of ONE SMART Engineering Pte Ltd. He is currently a candidate of Doctoral of Engineering in NUS on numerical modelling of Pipe Jacking. Mr. Lee obtained his MSc from NUS, and is the BCA-Industry iBuildSG Scholarship Recipient. Mr Lee is involved in a PUB triple water pipeline project consisting twin 1.8m diameter Potable Water pipe and 2.2m diameter Raw Water pipe using Mini Slurry TBM for Pipe Jacking. Other projects he is involved include 100 number of Manholes and 8km long proposed sewer pipe with largest diameter of 2.5m and install with pipe jacking. He has published technical papers in geotechnical engineering.
Chia Weng Boon
Dr Chia Weng Boon graduated from Nanyang Technological University receiving the Lee Kuan Yew Gold Medal in civil engineering in 2009, and obtained his PhD from University of Oxford in 2013. Boon has been with the Gamuda Group of Companies for about 10 years. He is a Chartered and Professional Civil Engineer (CPEng MIEAust, CEng MICE, PEng MIEM) and has given invited lectures in Turkey, Spain, Korea, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. He was awarded the Rocha Medal by ISRM in 2016, and inducted as a Future Leader Member of the American Rock Mechanics Association in 2017. Boon received twice the award of the Tan Sri Zainal Prize from IEM.
