Meeting Notes
Engaging Young Members:
Cholachat suggested creating a prediction event to engage young members, especially students, by encouraging them to participate in a competition and showcasing their designs with mentoring from senior industrial engineers.
Showcasing Projects:
Jan proposed focusing on showcasing exciting projects that corporate members are working on, such as large marine piles in New Zealand, to inspire engineers and attract more interest in the field.
Maximizing Presentation Time:
Roger suggested maximizing the 30-minute presentation time by fragmenting it into shorter segments, allowing multiple members to present their outstanding ideas and work.
Theory and Practice Balance:
David emphasized the importance of balancing theoretical research with practical applications in geotechnical engineering, ensuring that principles are demonstrated in the field. David and Jan discussed the importance of showcasing how theoretical research is applied in real-world projects, providing examples of successful implementations and the lessons learned from them.
Trends in Geotechnical Work:
Gina highlighted the importance of focusing on current trends in geotechnical work, such as energy projects and sustainability, which are of interest globally.
Collaboration with Universities:
Roger and Jan discussed the importance of collaborating with universities on projects, as it bridges the gap between theoretical research and practical applications in the industry.
