Geotechnical and Material Engineering Committee – SOE, UAE

The Geotechnical and Materials Engineering Committee (GEO-SOE) is a specialized technical body under the Society of Engineers UAE, dedicated to advancing excellence in geotechnical construction and materials engineering and supporting the sustainable and innovative development of infrastructure in the UAE. In the field of geotechnical engineering and materials engineering, GEO-SOE covers key areas including:

• Site investigation and ground characterization
• Foundation engineering (shallow and deep foundations)
• Earth-retaining systems and deep excavations
• Ground improvement and soil stabilization
• Underground works and tunnelling
• Geohazards, groundwater control, and dewatering
• Geotechnical monitoring and performance-based design
• Construction materials engineering, including testing, durability, and performance of materials used in geotechnical and infrastructure works

The committee promotes professional development, technical knowledge exchange, and applied research, while contributing to the development of best practices and alignment with international standards, including those of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. GEO-SOE plays a strategic role in bridging academia, industry, and government, fostering collaboration, innovation, and sustainable engineering practices across the UAE.
