History
START OF SOCIETY
Our “Comité Français de Mécanique des Sols et de Géotechnique” was incorporated in 1948 as a non-profit Society, in continuation of the "Comité National de la Mécanique du Sol" set up in 1937 further to a suggestion of M. Watier head of the Waterways and Ports Dept at the Ministry of Public Works which followed the idea launched the previous year at the time of the 1st International Conference of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering (as it was already called) held at Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusets.
AIM OF THE SOCIETY
The CFMS is aimed at the promotion of research works in the field of ground engineering and all connected activities, such as soil constitutive laws, construction works and processes, geoenvironmental engineering . Results and research work finds must then be publicized as well as technological developments and new specific products. The CFMS activities include european and international cooperation in the field of geotechnical and geoenvironmental activities.
