History

DATE OF FOUNDATION
The Finnish Geotechnical Society was founded on Jan. 21, 1951. 

MEMBERSHIP
The society started in 1951 with 8 members. At the end of Jan. 2020 the secretariat of the FGS managed the affairs of 573 members and 44 corporate members.

ACHIEVEMENTS
SGY is the pre-eminent professional body representing the interests and activities of engineers, academics and contractors in Finland that actively participate in ground engineering. The aim of SGY is to act as a non-profit link of professionals working in the field of geotechnical engineering in Finland and to promote and implement the research of the field, and to contribute to the education. To fulfil these aims SGY organizes events and enhances the guidance and publications of the field. The society has co-operation with other organizations of the field.
