ISSMGE President Lyesse Laloui to Deliver FedIGS Lecture at XV IAEG 2026 World Congress

Professor Lyesse Laloui, President of ISSMGE, has been invited by the International Association for Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG) to deliver the FedIGS Lecture at the XV IAEG 2026 World Congress, to be held in Delft, the Netherlands, from 30 October to 6 November 2026 (main congress sessions: 25 November).

The lecture is delivered on behalf of FedIGS, the Federation of International Geo-Engineering Societies, which brings together ISSMGE, IAEG, the International Society for Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering (ISRM), and the International Geosynthetics Society (IGS) to strengthen collaboration across the geo-engineering community.

Professor Laloui will present his lecture "Carbon Dioxide Injection into Deep Aquifers: A Geomechanical Perspective," delivered as part of an international lecture tour tied to his 2026 InterPore Kimberly-Clark Distinguished Lectureship Award.

Professor Laloui has directed the Soil Mechanics Laboratory at EPFL since 2008. He is the founding editor of Geomechanics for Energy and the Environment, a member of Academia Europaea and the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences, and has been awarded multiple ERC grants. He has authored 13 books and more than 400 scientific publications, holds several patents, and co-founded innovative engineering ventures such as Nesol Engineering Solutions..

The XV IAEG 2026 World Congress, themed "Engineering Geology in a Rapidly Changing World," will be held at the Aula of Delft University of Technology. ISSMGE looks forward to the Congress as a further opportunity to build bridges across the geo-engineering disciplines represented by FedIGS.
