Accelerated implicit cyclic loading with the hypoplastic sand
Accelerated implicit cyclic loading with the hypoplastic sand
Numerical simulations of the cyclic loading can be distinguished of two types, implicit and explicit. While the implicit cyclic loading approach integrates each individual cycle in its full length separately, the explicit cyclic loading simulation is concerned only with average values of the loading cycles. Consequently, performing a robust implicit cyclic loading simulation spanning over tens or hundreds of cycles is very time consuming and therefore, the explicit cyclic loading provides a suitable alternative. Nonetheless, the explicit cyclic loading provides only accumulation of strains and related state variables. This paper introduces a new approach to the implicit cyclic loading designated as accelerated which can significantly reduce computational time. The proposed approach is applied on a simple axisymmetric numerical model first. Later a simple model of monopile subjected to the cyclic loading is performed with the fully implicit and accelerated approach and compared.
