Advantages of 3D FEM modelling and BIM modelling for underground structures

Advantages of 3D FEM modelling and BIM modelling for underground structures

How do the results of 2 and 3 dimensional finite element calculations compare? What are the effects of 3-dimensional modelling? These topics will be discussed using the example of a deep excavation in Debrecen. I intend to present a comparison of the results of 2D and 3D calculations of a deep excavation pit measured with an inclinometer. I will compare the measured and calculated results and search for the best possible fit by varying the calculation parameters. Based on some field experience, measurement results and numerical analysis, the soil environment of an area can be better understood.

How can 3D BIM modelling help the design? The example is a deep excavation in the urban environment, where an old factory is being converted into a modern office. How does BIM help manage the construction and planning? What are the advantages and disadvantages?
