Application of the slurry deposition method to the reconstitution of samples of wolframite ore tailings

Application of the slurry deposition method to the reconstitution of samples of wolframite ore tailings

Safer and more sustainable mining implies a better assessment of the mechanical behaviour of ore tailings under different realistic testing conditions. This paper addresses the issue of reconstituting samples for element testing of ore tailings from the Panasqueira mine, an important Portuguesa tungsten mine with suitable mining waste management. The paper discusses the capabilities of a slurry-base reconstitution method using ore tailings from this mine. To this end, the undrained triaxial behaviour of the reconstituted samples and the effects of the reconstitution method on the characteristics of samples with unusual geometries, such as those used in the Hollow Cylinder Apparatus, are discussed.
