This article presents a comparison design-monitoring a diaphragm wall for a deep excavation up to 11.60 meters in Sibiu. Works were done between May and August 2021. Scope of the works were design and execution of a pit enclosure to accommodate an infrastructure for an administration building with two underground levels 3.00 meters below groundwater level. A retaining system supported with modular struts on one level at -2.80 m was the adopted solution, which has been modelled by means of finite element method (FEM), using Plaxis 2D, which offer conservative values compared to the behaviour on the overall behaviour of the excavation due to the reduced plan dimensions of the enclosure which lead to a stiffening of the field areas of the enclosure from its corner areas
