Deep foundation system of the Promenada Mall extension in Bucharest, Romania

The paper describes the designed deep foundation system of a future multi-storey commercial center laid at - 23.0m below natural ground level with considerations on the particularities of the superstructure's configuration being addressed. A particular aspect within the paper consists in the presentation of the analyses performed for various stages of construction with respect to soil-structure interaction thus resulting in an iterative design methodology. The necessary parameters to be considered in order to validate and optimize the initially tendered design are determined on a dedicated testing procedure carried out by means of Osterberg cells that have been performed within the initial phases of the project. A full assessment has been obtained by processing data from the Osterberg cell testing, allowing advanced numerical modelling of the soil-structure interaction and resulting in an optimal layout of the foundation elements. The paper presents essential results obtained from numerical analyses and performed in situ testing resulting in a full simulation of the final soil-structure interaction fundaments.
