ABSTRACT: The assessment of the seismic vulnerability of structures requires a good knowledge of the behaviour and damage of the ground under seismic action. Settlement
is one of the damage indicators which is a major problem for the stability of structures. The objective of the present study is to select the seismic damage indicator that allows a better prediction of settlement in a loose soil type and to study the vulnerability of structures built on this type of soil. Correlations are then established between the soil response and the strong ground motion parameters. Soil settlement is then classified into four categories according to the degree of damage to existing structures, which defines the seismic vulnerability of the building.
