ABSTRACT: This paper studies the effect of cement on the mechanical behavior of chlef sand. To improve the mechanical properties of chlef sand, sand-cement specimens were prepared with different cement content (Cc=5%; 7,5%;10%). To determine the mechanical characteristics of reinforced sand, direct shear tests were conducted at a moisture content of 10%; relative density of 80%, and normal stress (N=50kPa;100kPa;200kPa), the specimens were cured for 7,14 and 28 days. According to the results, cement induced an improvement in shear strength and cohesion, it also indicates a reduction in the soil`s dilating behavior.
