Innovative and sustainable geosynthetic solutions in the field of bridge abutment construction
The constant increase in traffic volume and the dilapidated condition of many existing infrastructure requires constant maintenance, modernisation, and reconstruction. Bridge structures play a particularly important role in this context. The use of geosynthetics can help to overcome this challenge in a more cost-effective and sustainable way compared to established technologies. Geosynthetic-reinforced soil structures can be used, for example, to relief the foundation or the abutment structure from earth-pressure. In many cases it can even be used to form the abutment as such. In any case these solutions impress with their simplicity in construction, robustness, and their quick implementation. This is demonstrated by means of completed projects.
