On the behavior of laterally loaded single piles embedded in Gibson’s clays

Laterally loaded piles represent a complex soil-foundation interaction phenomenon due to the multitude of parameters that are involved. The aim of this article is to analyze the be-havior of single piles under lateral loads embedded in Gibson’s clays. The analysis is based on an extensive finite element parametric study using ABAQUS software. Practical formulas were proposed for predicting the pile deflection at the ground surface Y0 and for deriving P-Y reaction curves.
