The problem of soil pollution with hydrocarbons is a very critical problem worldwide and attract researchers and geotechnical engineers in special. Indeed, this problem spreads in most petroleum sites in Syria. From this point of view, this paper concentrates on studying this problem, its causes, the process of minimizing its spreading, minimizing its bad effects on soils properties. Experimental and analytical methodology were followed to accomplish this research through reviewing the global methods that used for treating and remediation, and then applying in the site. As conclusion, it was found that hydrocarbons affect the soil by increasing its plasticity index and decreasing its maximum dry density and permeability coefficient. The most appropriate method for treating contaminated soils of medium concentrations is landfill.
