The implications of poor leadership on geotechnical risk
Major infrastructure projects require that a wide range of design and construction specialists be fully integrated in order to achieve the project goals. Of critical importance to these projects are the geotechnical engineers who work on the project from investigation through design and onto construction. The failure of geotechnical teams and engineers to adequately integrate into a wider team can result in greater risks being taken by the project. Through a case study of a major infrastructure project, this paper discusses how issues can arise and the consequences that can result. It then presents thoughts on how they can be overcome with appropriate leadership and management.
