Dr. Ing. Daniele Cazzuffi
Dr. Ing. Daniele Cazzuffi is leader of the Geosynthetics and Environmental Geotechnics group at CESI SpA, a consulting engineering company in Milano. Since the early 80s he has been involved in research and design programs regarding the use of geosynthetics, related products and associated technologies in many practical applications in Italy and abroad, particularly in the field of geotechnical and geo-environmental engineering.
From 1989 to 1990 he spent one sabbatical year in important institutions and universities in North America, as US Army Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg; US Bureau of Reclamation in Denver; Geosyntec Consultants in Atlanta, Drexel University in Philadelphia and Ecole Polytechnique in Montréal.
In the early Nineties Dr. Cazzuffi was a Visiting Professor in Geotechnics at Florence and Calabria Universities, and from 1994 till 2002 at Trento University in Italy.
He is author / co-author of more than 300 conference and journal papers, and an active member of various National and International technical committees. In particular, he was President of IGS (International Geosynthetics Society) from 2002 to 2006 and is currently Chairman of CEN TC 189 on Geosynthetics, Convenor of ISO TC 221 WG3 on Mechanical Tests, and President of the Italian Chapter of IGS, i.e. IGS Italy.
Dr Cazzuffi is member of the Editorial Boards of Geotextiles and Geomembranes and Geosynthetics International and Managing Director of Rivista Italiana di Geotecnica(i.e.Italian Geotechnical Journal).
He has presented a number of keynote or invited lectures in various Regional and International conferences of IGS, including GeosyntheticsAsia 4 (Shanghai, China, 2008), 9th International Conference on Geosynthetics (Guaruja, Brazil, 2020), EuroGeo 6 (Ljubljana, Slovenia, 2016) and GeoAfrica 2023 (Cairo, Egypt, 2023), the ISSMGE 17th Asian Regional Conference (Astana, Khazakhstan, 2023), the 18th African Regional Conference (Algiers, Algeria, 2024) and at the GeoTech Asia 2025 Conference (Goa, India, 2025), focusing on different aspects of geosynthetics applications relevant to dams, reservoirs, tunnels, filter and drainage systems and reinforced structures, with particular attention to their crucial role in this period of global climate change.
Since April 2026 Dr Cazzuffi has been re-elected President of IGS for the next term until 2030, and in June 2026 he has been nominated as Appointed Member to the Board of ISSMGE for the term 2026 2030.
