Christelle Abadie is the Deputy Director of the Geotechnical Centrifuge Laboratory and a Research Scientist in sustainable development at Université Gustave Eiffel, based on the Nantes (Bouguenais) campus. She obtained an engineering degree from ENSTA Paris, together with an MSc in Advanced Structural Design from ENS Cachan, before completing a DPhil in Civil Engineering at the University of Oxford. Her doctoral research focused on the long-term cyclic lateral loading response of monopile foundations, leading to the development of the HARM model. She subsequently worked as lead postdoctoral researcher on the PISA2 (Pile Soil Analysis) project at Oxford. In 2018, she joined the University of Cambridge as an Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering and became the first permanent female Engineering Fellow at Fitzwilliam College. She moved to Université Gustave Eiffel in 2023 and was appointed Deputy Director of the Geotechnical Centrifuge Laboratory in 2026. Her research focuses on offshore geotechnics, geomechanics and soil–structure interaction, with particular emphasis on sustainable infrastructure and energy systems in the context of climate change. She is currently General Secretary and a nominated member of ISSMGE TC209, and serves as technical advisor for the TAILWIND and GRAVITY projects. She also served as Co-General Secretary and Lead Editor of the International Symposium on Frontiers in Offshore Geotechnics (ISFOG 2025), held in Nantes in June 2025. In recognition of her contributions to offshore geotechnics, she received the 2025 Bright Spark Award and was awarded third place in the 2026 PIANC De Paepe-Willems Award.
