Rhiannon Reardon is a Chartered Professional Engineer in Geotechnical Engineering with Engineering New Zealand and a Senior Geotechnical Engineer at Beca. She graduated with first-class, first degree honours from The University of Auckland, New Zealand’s top engineering university, in 2018 and has since dedicated eight years to working at one of the country’s leading engineering firms. Rhiannon has worked on a diverse range of major infrastructure and land development projects in New Zealand, and has overseen geotechnical investigations, design, and construction monitoring under challenging ground conditions including soft, compressible soils and high seismic risk areas.
Rhiannon initially took on a role as an NZGS Bay of Plenty Branch co-ordinator in 2023, helping to organise training presentations for its local industry members. At the end of 2025 she was elected onto the 2026/27 NZGS Management Committee and now serves as a Training, Workshops, Webinars Coordinator for the society. She is also on the organisational committee for the NZGS ANZ2028 Conference, being held in Christchurch.
In 2024 she was awarded the “People’s Choice Award” for her presentation at the 15th Young Geotechnical Professionals Conference in Adelaide. In 2025 she was awarded the prestigious ISSMGE Foundation Award to attend the 2026 21st Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering in Vienna, Austria. Recently, she was awarded the Second Prize Award in the ISSMGE Heritage Time Capsule Discoverer Report Competition. Rhiannon’s submission reviewed the TC203 Earthquake Discoverer’s Report, reflecting on the development of earthquake geotechnical engineering, the importance of international knowledge sharing, and the relevance of these lessons to New Zealand’s seismic environment. Her leadership training includes graduating from the 2024 Māhuri Māori Leadership pilot programme, sponsored by Te Puni Kōkiri, as well as the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards development programme in 2023.
