Yu-Wei Hwang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at National Taiwan University. He obtained his Bachelor and Master degrees from National Taiwan University and his PhD from the University of Colorado Boulder. Before joining National Taiwan University, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Texas at Austin and as an Assistant Professor at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University. His research focuses on geotechnical earthquake engineering, including liquefaction hazard mitigation, structure-soil-structure interaction, seismic performance of offshore wind turbine foundations, seismic slope deformation, and machine learning applications in geotechnical engineering, with more than 28 journal publications, including 6 in Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering and 7 in Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering. His research has been adopted in several practical engineering projects in Taiwan, including liquefaction mitigation design for urban sites and geotechnical design evaluation of drag anchors for offshore wind and floating platforms. He is currently the Secretary of TC305 (Geotechnical Infrastructure for Megacities and New Capitals) and a member of TC203 (Earthquake Geotechnical Engineering) and TC207 (Soil-Structure Interaction and Retaining Walls) in ISSMGE. He received the Taiwan Outstanding Young Geotechnical Engineer Award (2025) and the inaugural Best Paper Award for Geotechnical Engineering from the European OpenSees Society (2025). In 2026, he was awarded the Bright Spark Lecture Award from ISSMGE at the 21st ICSMGE.
