Magazine Presidential Committee

Welcome to the Magazine Presidential Committee (MPC) of the ISSMGE

Our profession’s stories, told by its people.

The MPC is the ISSMGE Presidential Committee responsible for the ISSMGE Magazine, the Society’s flagship publication for news, stories and ideas from across the global geotechnical community. Building on the long record of the ISSMGE Bulletin, the Magazine broadens that mission: it brings together the work of our Technical Committees, Member Societies, industry partners, young members and researchers in one accessible publication, read by engineers worldwide.

Our mandate The MPC exists to collect, curate and share. We gather contributions from every part of the Society, shape them into engaging and reliable content, and bring them to members and to the wider engineering community.

From Bulletin to Magazine: The Vision Behind the Shift

For nearly 20 years, the ISSMGE Bulletin has kept members informed about the Society’s activities, conferences, committees and people. It has been a reliable record of ISSMGE life, and we are grateful to all the editors and contributors who built it.

The profession, and the way people read, have changed. Members want to see not only what the Society is doing, but also the projects, ideas and people behind geotechnical engineering. Industry, students and the wider public increasingly look for content that is visual, accessible and easy to share.

The move to a Magazine responds to this. Under the presidency of Prof. Lyesse Laloui, the MPC was established for the 2026–2030 term to turn the Bulletin into a publication with a stronger editorial voice, a wider range of content and a broader readership.

Mission and Objectives

Mission: To make the ISSMGE Magazine the shared voice of the global geotechnical community, connecting members across regions, sectors and generations through stories that inform, inspire and recognize.

Objectives:

  • Showcase the work of the Society by giving visibility to the activities and outcomes of Technical Committees, Board-Level and Presidential Committees, and Member Societies.
  • Bridge academia and practice by publishing project stories, case histories and accessible summaries of research with practical relevance.
  • Give a voice to every member, with balanced representation across regions, professional sectors, genders and career stages.
  • Celebrate people through profiles, interviews, award announcements and tributes.
  • Engage young professionals and students as readers, contributors and members of the editorial team.
  • Raise the profile of geotechnical engineering beyond the Society, with content that can be shared with industry, clients and the public.

Call for Contributions: Your Stories Make the Magazine

The Magazine is written by the Society, for the Society. Every member has a story worth sharing, and we warmly invite contributions from all parts of the ISSMGE community. You do not need to wait to be invited.

Member Societies: Share your national news, events, anniversaries, awards and initiatives, so members worldwide can learn from your activities.

Technical Committees: Tell us about your workshops outcomes, guidelines, and collaborations. The Magazine is a direct way to increase the visibility and impact of your TC’s work.

Industry and Corporate Associates: Share your projects, innovations and lessons from the field. We will work closely with the Industry Partnership and Engagement Committee (IPEC) to bring practice to the fore.

Young Members and Students: Write about your career path, research, field experience or ideas for the future of the profession. We will work with the Young Member Presidential Group (YMPG) and the Future Leaders Committee to amplify your voice.

Researchers and Academics: Send short, accessible summaries of your recent work, focusing on why it matters in practice.

Every member: Send us your photos from site or conferences, letters to the editor, ideas for topics, or nominations for people we should profile.
