Fifth symposium of MAG / Second conference of regional geotechnical societies / ISRM specialized conference

Description

The 5th symposium of Macedonian Association for Geotechnics will be held 23-25.6.2022, as a Second conference of regional geotechnical societies and as an ISRM Specialized Conference. It will take place in UNESCO's world heritage site - Ohrid, a city of great historical and cultural importance on the shore of one of the oldest and deepest European tectonic lakes.

It is organized with a goal to familiarize the expert and scientific public with the most recent findings in geotechnics. For that purpose, the Symposium will host the following lecturers and guests: Reshat Ulusay, Nick Barton, Anna Maria Ferrero, Heinz Brandl, Boris Jeremic, Eda Freitas de Quadros, Milorad Jovanovski, etc.

Papers can be prepared on the main topic of the Symposium: "Engineering problems in soft rocks", about those and related geological materials, in one of the following areas:

  1. Geotechnical aspects in urban areas and infrastructure (foundation engineering, dams, roads, railways, tunnels, underground structures, mines, nuclear power plants, etc.)
  2. Laboratory and field geotechnical testing and investigation (ISO CEN, laboratory tests, in-situ investigation and testing CPT, dilatometers, geophysical...)
  3. Geotechnical modelling of soils and rocks (numerical, physical, GIS, BIM, remote detection)
  4. Assessment and reduction of geo-hazards (terrain instabilities, retaining structures, improvement methods)
  5. Eurocodes and relevant geotechnical regulation (technical regulation, challenges to the implementation of Eurocodes 7 and 8, national annexes)
  6. Earthquake geotechnical engineering (influence of local conditions, seismic zoning of the terrain, liquefaction, lessons learned after recent earthquakes)
  7. Geotechnics and achievements in support of a sustainable society (environmental protection, education, historical buildings, directions in development...)
  8. Specific problems in soft rocks
