Analysis and modelling of Resonant Column test results on reconstituted specimens of a saturated pyroclastic soil

In the last decades, several efforts have been made by the Scientific Community to properly investigate the role played by the factors that affect the soil dynamic behaviour and define reliable interpretation models. With the general intent to provide a further contribution on the topic, this paper shows the results of laboratory tests carried out with a Resonant Column (RC) equipment on reconstituted specimens of a pyroclastic soil widely diffused in the Campania region (southern Italy) in saturated conditions. In particular, the laboratory tests are specifically aimed at investigating the effects of confining stresses on the soil shear stiffness modulus (G) at either very small or small shear strains (γ). The test results are also used to calibrate the values of parameters involved in modelling the G–γ relationships for the saturated pyroclastic soil under consideration.
