How AI and IoT are transforming geotechnical site monitoring and construction


Artificial intelligence (AI) and internet of things (IoT) are the most transforming advancements in geotechnical site monitoring and construction. Indeed, the increasing integration of AI and IoT devices and technologies into construction processes have enhanced construction management as a benefit from real-time feedback that provides early warning systems, facilitating timely interventions and ensuring construction site safety, as well as structural health monitoring of built environment. This presentation will start summarising the state of the art of these advancements in geotechnical works. Two field works in Portugal, one on infrastructure earthworks and another on a metro line in an area of dense urbanisation with new and old buildings, including historical monuments, involving trenches, load transfer platform solutions and main station, serve to demonstrate the benefits of applying these developments in comparison to traditional management techniques.
