Dynamic centrifuge model tests can be used for simulating the actual behavior of geotechnical structures, verifying numerical analyses, and practical design. To measure the deformation of the model in centrifuge model tests, displacement transducers (LVDTs) and laser displacement meters are commonly used, however these measurement methods cannot used for measuring the overall deformation of the model. Image analysis is a method used for measuring the overall deformation of the model by using the captured images. However, in dynamic centrifuge model tests, it is difficult to capture images during shaking test. In addition, image analysis cannot be performed without calibration due to the occurrence of relative displacement between the shaking table and the platform of the centrifuge. Therefore, this paper introduces a new image measurement technique using a high-speed camera which can sequentially capture images of embankment during earthquake in centrifugal force field. Evaluation of continuous overall deformation of embankment during earthquake were successfully observed succeed by image analysis using the images obtained from the new method. By comparing the displacements measured by laser displacement meters with those obtained from image analysis, it is seen that the new method in this study can be used for evaluating the deformation of soil structure during shaking tests.
