Introduction
The ISSMGE is the pre-eminent professional body representing the interests and activities of Engineers, Academics and Contractors all over the world that actively participate in geotechnical engineering.
As a truly global organisation, the ISSMGE provides a focus for professional leadership to some 90 Member Societies and around 20,000 individual members. The website is intended to:
- provide the membership with regular and up to date news and information about the activities of the society around the world, including webinars, lectures, conferences.
- provide a communication platform for the effective management and administration of the society.
- provide a communication platform for the effective coordination of the Technical Committees and the dissemination of TC publications and reports.
- provide a single point of access for our members to obtain information on upcoming events and conferences.
Aims
Legal Status
As of 1 May 2025, the ISSMGE has been incorporated as a legal entity under the name International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Ltd., registered in the United Kingdom. The Society continues to be known internationally by its long-established name, International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE).
This incorporation strengthens the Societys governance and provides a formal legal foundation for its global activities. For more information, refer to the Governing Documents page.
